Well Someone Has To Say It...

What If It Is You?

Autism. It is a condition that is plaguing our nation, but the condition itself is not the purpose of this blog. I know I am going to step on some toes with this blog. This post is about me venting on the parenting style of one person and questioning their behavior and how it affects the children involved.

Christmas In July: The Night Before Christmas

It was the night before Christmas, and all through the neighborhood, not a family was sleeping, not even the glittery one. You could find us all singing with happiness and cheer, as we stuffed the stockings and grabbed each others rears.

Christmas In July: Where Are We Going?

When I sat down and started the list of ideas for my Christmas in July blogs, this post was intended to be a list of attractions for the family during Christmas. Little did I know that the plans for this would change. I was told that I had a surprise and it was days before I was told what it was all about.

Christmas In July: One Day At A Time

Advent Calenders

As a child, I loved uncovering the days of an advent calender. We never did presents or treats, but it gave me something to look forward to every day. I love the idea to do treats or specific activities each day until Christmas. Whether it is candy, toys, fun activities, or random acts of kindess for each day, the advent calender is a great way to keep kids of all ages excited of what is to come. Here are some ideas for some really cute and festive advent calenders.

Christmas In July: Making Christmas - Ornaments!!!

There is always something to be said about the decorations and ornaments on someone's Christmas tree each year. Many choice to decorate with ornaments that are special to them. That can sometimes be hard with more personal ornaments. So I took time to find more DIY ideas for making ornaments.

Read It - How Was It?

The Wicked Lovely Series by Melissa Marr

It has taken me some time to get through these books. I sped through the first book like it was nobody's business. I fell in love with the characters and the story. I couldn't put it down; however, as I started to move on in the series I slowed down more and more with each book. I was thrown in the next book as the points of view shifted to all different characters. Each book has new points of view with the occasional revisit from old favorites.

Disney Planning With My Little Princess!!!

January 2015 cannot get here soon enough! I am ready for my first ever Disney Vacation! When I was first invited on this trip, it was just me. I couldn't have imagined that just a few short months later I would be going as a family. I think I can speak for all of us when I say I am excited to see this for the first time! (With the exception of Nathaniel who has been before.)

Disney Days Challege - Day 10: Flippin' Your Fins You Don't Get Too Far

Lookin' Around Here You'd Think - Sure, She's Got Everything

I have connected with this song every since I was little. No matter how many things I have, I always felt like something was missing. I have never fit in really. Even when I thought I did, it turned out I was just pitied and taken in.

Disney Days - Day 9: Original Disney Love

Aww Shucks

For the love of Saturday morning cartoons! Goofy has always captured my attention from the original cast of characters. He is funny, sweet, and sadly unlucky. He never lets his misfortune bring him down, and that I always admired. Goofy always makes me laugh.

For Every Moment Of Self Doubt...

I Am Beautiful No Matter What They Say

This is a very hard post for me to write. Some many things have come to light the past few days and they have all made me realize some things about myself. I never wanted this for my daughter. I never wanted her to look in the mirror and hate what she sees. I know that I am not the cause of this because I have not always been a part of her life, but adopting her has changed my life. The rest of this post is mine and centers on me and the people that I love.

To Avary,
Mommy is so sorry that you have already had to deal with so many bad things in your life. You have inspired me to be a better mother, a better wife, and a better woman. I am so sorry that I have not always thought highly of myself, but that is changing. I want to lead by example. I want you to look at me and see a role model and someone that you can look up to. I want to show you how it feels to be beautiful and to love who you are. I want to show you that you don't have to be one size, one certain look, or just so to be beautiful. We are beautiful together. You and I will take this world by storm and show them just what beauty can be.

To +Nate
My love, you have held me and wiped my tears. You have made a point to tell me how beautiful and gorgeous I am every day. At first I thought you were crazy. Now I see just how much that I have hurt you. I know that I will never be able to undo the pain I have caused you, and sometimes I am sorry just isn't enough. So instead of apologizing to you for how terrible I have been, I am going to show you just how stunning I can be. I am going to love the woman that I am not just for you, but for our daughter as well. I am going to look at myself with pride and know that I am a bombshell. You choose to be with me. I am going to choose to love myself. Every inch, every stretch mark, every scar defines me and my beauty. It is time that I show you and the world just how amazing I really am.

To +Mary Ann, +Hunter+Odette, (Several others, but these are the three I affected the most)
For every tear that I have cried, for every time I have hidden myself away, and for every negative thing I have ever said that has affected you I am truly sorry. Without the three of you to look up to I would never be able to face what I am facing now. You have held my hand, you have encouraged me, and you have shown me that I am someone to love. I am going to make the three of you proud.

To Myself,
You are beautifully and wonderfully made. It is time that you look at yourself and smile. Tentatively touch your skin and feel your beautiful. It is time that you blossom and shine. You have wasted so many years hating yourself for all the things you are not, that you have forgotten all the things that you are. There are so many that love you and cherish you. You may love yourself, but it is time to love your body too. You are not and you never where all those terrible things that people said to you. You are the only person that can define how you look. It is time to let it all go and to embrace every inch of you.

Family Traditions

All of my old Christmas traditions will soon be changing as I start new traditions with my little girl and boyfriend. For years I have had the same traditions, so I am looking forward to the change; however, I wanted to share some of those traditions with you now.

  • Nasty Baby - I did a full blog on this and will link it. She has been passed down to me now and I will carry on with her being the first ornament on the tree.
  • Going out looking at Christmas lights each year as a family. I fondly remember having to take my new doll from a friend of the family on the trip when I was younger.
  • Putting candy canes all over the tree. I loved the way they looked, and I would get to eat them throughout the month.
  • Putting up the tree on Thanksgiving night after dinner.
  • Making candy for gifts. We used to gift trays of candy to doctors, friends, and businesses. I love helping make the candy over the years. I cannot wait to continue this with two tiny hands helping me.
  • Opening one gift on Christmas eve before bed. I didn't do this when I got older, but we used to as a child.
  • Friendship Fruit Cake - 30 days to make, but it is well worth the effort. I have always loved it.

Christmas In July: What's This

Dear Santa

In conjunction with my daughter, who wrote a letter to Santa today, I wanted to write one for myself. She will be writing another in December to go along with it.

This has been a year for me. So what I ask for is very simple. I ask for the happiness, love, and health of my family, friends, and loved ones. I write to you for hopes of a wonderful Christmas for those around me. The greatest gift that can be given to me this year is their love and happiness, not only on Christmas, but for the coming year as well. May their stockings be hung and filled with things they will devour. May the lights of the tree dance over a floor full of gifts for those surrounding me. May the magic of Christmas shine through me and bless those around me. Help me give back this holiday season. Gifts are only what you make of them, and this year, I want more than anything for mine to be warm hugs and love from those around me. It is simple for me.

With Love

What Am I Listening Too:
Bing Crosby - Winter Wonderland
The Robertsons - Why I Love Christmas
Ferrante & Teicher - Sleigh Ride
Cecil Scaife - Up On The Housetop
Kenny Chesney - The Angel At The Top Of My Tree

Christmas In July: Making Christmas

Handmade Gifts

Sometimes the best gifts are the ones from the heart that are made by the hands that are giving it. I love making handmade gifts for friends and family for the holidays. Whether it is something small and simple for the kids or jewelry and other things for adults, I always take pride in giving something that I have made them myself. For several years now I have made one of my friends at least one handmade item. It is usually just pieces of jewelry when I find colors or themes throughout the year that she would like. Whether they are worn or not, they are made with love and show that I am willing to put the time into making something special for Christmas. I love receiving handmade gifts as well. I adore that someone would take the time to make me something unique and just for me.

What Am I Listening To:
Bing Crosby - Silver Bells
Alvin And The Chipmunks - The Chipmunk Song
Cincinnati Pops Orchestra & Erich Kunzel - We Need A Little Christmas
The Robertsons - Duck The Halls
Gene Autry - Here Comes Santa Claus

Disney Days - Day 8: Never Underestimate The Importance

Of Body Language

Anyone that knows me seen this coming a mile away. I have always had an obsession with Ursula! She is by far my favorite villain of all time. She is always animated and to the point.

"Come here my child. We mustn't lurk in doorways, it's rude."

Her wisdom speaks volumes. Even as a villian she spoke of the world in a very truthful sense. Even in deceit she was charming and endearing.

"My dear sweet child, that's what I do. That's what I live for, to help unfortunate merfolk, like yourself."

I would always watched the way she carried herself. The way she moved fascinated me to no end.

"You have your looks, your pretty face. And don't underestimate the importance of Body Language."

"You can't get something for nothing you know."

She is evilly sweet and descrete. Oh you poor unfortunate souls.
