Top 5 May - Lupus Infusion Care Bag

Hello, Lovelies! Welcome back to the next installment of Top 5 May! I hope that you are enjoying it so far. Today is a more hard-hitting topic. May is the month for Lupus awareness with May 10th, tomorrow, being World Lupus Day. Today, I am going to share with you five things I pack in the infusion care bag for my significant other.

Lupus hits close to home for me and it is a disease I am still learning. Infusions are a bi-weekly part of the treatment plan for my boyfriend to help his body fight back. This isn't a medically centered blog, but the realities are Lupus are vast. If you would like more information on Lupus, you can visit the Lupus Foundation of America for more information.

Journaling Supplies
Whether it is a general journal or writing down anything the nurse, doctors, or care staff has to say, journaling has been proven to help with memory. This way he can keep track of notes, future appointments, and track his overall feelings and experience during the infusions.

Snacks
This is a must. Sitting for long periods of time while receiving your infusion often prompts hunger. I have found it helpful to pack a variety of snacks for him to have on hand. Anything from crackers, jerky, and chips, to a sandwich or, his favorite, tacos! Even though we have a pattern for high blood glucose during his infusions, I like to keep a few sweet snacks just in case too. Of course, don't forget a good water bottle to stay hydrated as well.

Books and Magazines
Just like food and water, entertainment is crucial. I love including his favorites and a few newer items for him to read or browse through. Harry Potter is always a staple, obviously! This gives him something visually to keep his mind on.

Blankets
Comfort is key to making it through the infusion, so I always make sure to pack blankets for him to snuggle up in. Sometimes sleeping happens so being warm and cozy can help him to relax and rest well.

Headphones
Whether it is music, youtube videos, or even Netflix, headphones help him to indulge in media without disrupting anyone around him. Even though we are lucky to have home infusions now, it can also help him to tune out the rest of the world.

If you have frequent, and long, hospital or doctors visits, what are some essentials you pack to make the experience better?
